HACT’s got the Winning Team

23/04/2012

After the excitement of this year's Virgin London Marathon, congratulations are in order for the 11 runners who took part in support of HACT.

23 April 2012.

“If you want atmosphere – do the London Marathon” said John Taylor from Midland Heart. John was one of HACT’s 11 runners who along with 36,000 others took part in the 26 mile race on Sunday 22 April 2012. John came home in a respectable 4hrs 41minutes and raised £2,000 for HACT in the process.

HACT Chief Executive, Matt Leach said “This year’s runners have done a brilliant job, both in completing the race and raising funds – well done!” In total the HACT runners have raised over £20,000 – an incredible achievement. Every penny will go towards HACT’s work with communities.

“Around half will go towards our Self Help Housing project. The rest will go towards supporting other HACT work, including the latest wave of our Reach In project. The great news is that this will release further pledged matched funds from corporate sponsors, helping sponsorship money go even further.” continued Matt Leach.

Self-Help Housing provides business support and advice to community groups bringing empty homes in their communities back to life, revitalising communities and meeting local housing need. And Reach In matches refugees with volunteering roles in housing providers, helping this hard to reach group get back into employment.

HACT would like to say a massive thank you to our 11 athletes, who have worked hard over the past six months in preparation for the big day.  Both the training and fundraising have been a challenge but every one has surpassed themselves.

“Running for HACT has reinvigorated me, it’s a great cause”, Sandra Maguire, who despite loosing toe nails completed the course in 5hr31! But our star runner was Gavriel Hollander from Inside Housing, who whizzed round in a mere 3hrs and 50 minutes. The other runners all did incredibly well and we’d like to congratulate each one of our team:
